WHY YOU NEED A NEWSLETTER
by Stephen Earley Jordan, II
Category: Self-Publishing - http://www.wordpreneur.com/selfpublish
If you’re a small business owner you definitely need
promotion. And, if you’re a freelancer - you ARE the
product - so you’ll ultimately need self-promotion.
Newsletters can not only inform your customers of future
events, discounts, and services, but can serve as a helpful
source of information for you to analyze the growth and
success of your business.
Newsletters can be published and distributed according to
individual business needs (weekly, bimonthly, quarterly,
and annually, etc.). Printing costs can be kept to a
minimum with black & white printing; or if your budget is a
bit more expendable, capture your reader’s attention with a
vibrant-colored logo, text and graphics. Whether you use
b&w or color printing, adding a newsletter into your budget
keeps and attracts new clients! Let’s see the different
types of newsletters and discover which best suits your
needs. Newsletters can range from In the Office (ITO)
Newsletters to Out of the Office (OOTO) Newsletters. More
importantly, each one serves its own separate purpose.
Inter-Office (ITO) Newsletters. ITO Newsletters may be
somewhat casual generated simply for the purpose of
notifying those with whom you work. Educate employees by
placing this type of newsletter in their office mailbox or
on their desk.

THREE TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR WRITING RHYTHM
by Michele Pariza Wacek
Category: Technique - http://www.wordpreneur.com/technique
As a professional copywriter, not only do I do a lot of
writing but I also look at a lot of writing. One of the
things I've noticed that set the good/great writers from
the so-so is rhythm.
What I mean by rhythm is how the writing sounds. The rhythm
of the words and sentences. It's a subtle aspect of
writing, one not normally talked about, but that doesn't
lessen its importance.
Unfortunately, rhythm is also tough to teach (which is
probably why it isn't talked about very much). It's
something felt deep inside, like it is with music. It isn't
as straight forward as pointing out a grammar error. What
makes it tougher is that everyone has his/her own style and
own unique rhythm. However, these three tips should get you
started thinking about your own writing rhythm and how to
improve it.
1. Watch out for long sentences. In fact, you might want to
consider avoiding them altogether.

WORKING WITH A FREELANCE EDITOR
by Jennifer Tribe
Category: The Job - http://www.wordpreneur.com/thejob
If you are interested in creating information products, you
will very likely deal with editors throughout your career.
You may need someone to edit a book, review a special
report, or tighten up a magazine article. Even if you are a
brilliant writer, it always helps to have someone else look
at the work with fresh eyes.
Most of these editors will be people you hire on a
freelance or project basis. To get the most out of such a
relationship, it helps to be clear about what you need and
what you can expect.
To start, you should know what kind of editing you are
looking for. There are many different levels and varieties
of editing. Probably the three you will encounter the most
are substantive editing, copyediting and proofreading.
Substantive editing
Sometimes called developmental editing, substantive editing
looks at both the content and structure of a manuscript as
a cohesive whole. Does the story or argument flow
logically? Are there obvious gaps in a certain area? Too
much information someplace else? Substantive editing can
involve re-ordering large chunks of text, removing text,
adding text, and even rewriting.
