The online business system of promoting external products and services as an affiliate to help monetize our blogs and sites has been around for a while… over a decade, actually. Considering the relative maturity of a business model where advertisers and companies pay third party publishers (us) for traffic, referrals and sales, should we still bother, then, to test the legitimacy of an affiliate program before devoting resources to promoting it on our blogs/sites?
You betcha.

Sorry, but it’s been quiet around here of late. I’m in the middle of a big project (a number of them, actually), and I am far from the poster child for multitasking. So, as I pound away at my TO DO list so I can get back to writing new content, I’ve decided to reprint vintage Wordpreneur posts that I’ve found particularly helpful. I think you will too. Here’s an interesting Washington Post article on a Cornell University study on a “pricing trick” that seems to work. The study’s specific to the home real estate market, but it most likely has psychological implications for how we price what we sell (what doesn’t?).

Some interesting commentary at WebProNews on the issue of paying blog contributors based in part on how many eyeballs their posts attract. The more popular writers, obviously, get more money as a direct result of their performance.

Maybe it’s just me, but this time of the year I spend more energy than usual thinking of money, finances, numbers, business, blah blah blah. Watch it creep into all my posts.
Take this one on writer’s websites, in response to the usual newbie question (let’s pretend that’s you) on whether one should invest in a website or not.
No brainer? Well, since the assumption is that you’re a writing industry newb, you won’t have any clips yet. So, should you spend money on a website/Web hosting?
