This’ll take a bit more convincing on your part: Ask authorities for original articles on a specific subject. This’ll help you market and promote your product as something your prospect “can’t get anywhere else.”

They’ll do it (or enough of them will) if there’s really something in it for them. Payment always works. Or if you have a good track record — have a fairly popular established site with decent traffic, have already published something or other, are an authority yourself in your field, etc. — that should be more than sufficient to convince a bunch to give you an article gratis.
Of course, if you think you’ve got the charisma and ability to sell them on the project, giving you original articles for free even though you’re just starting out fresh, then by all means, have at it. It’s not like that approach hasn’t ever been done before.
