EGAD #11 – Repackage Public Domain Content

The post title pretty much says it all, doesn’t it? Let’s tap Wikipedia for a quick working definition for public domain:

The public domain is an intellectual property designation for the range of content that is not owned or controlled by anyone. These materials are “public property”, and available for anyone to use freely for any purpose.

I’d say “publish in ebook form” certainly qualifies as “use freely for any purpose.” That, and a bunch of other packaging and product ideas to boot. With just a smidgen of creativity, with the right content you’ll be pretty much set.

So, where do you find this content? Start with the Wikipedia entry where I got the quote above from and get more intimate with the concept. Then make Google earn its billions — search for public domain (and/or any other applicable terms you may learn about in the wiki) and you may be pleasantly surprised at what you’ll come across!
