EGAD #10 – Do an Authority “Group Interview”

General — Tags: , , — Wordpreneur @ 9:30 am

The formula is simple: Ask fewer questions + Ask more people = Produce an ebook with at least the same amount of content as an extensive interview of a single authority.

What probably makes this even more appealing is that you don’t even have to interview them all at the same time! Start with a “short list” of core questions that you’ll ask every person on your list of authorities, then piece all the answers quickly together into something that makes sense and flows more naturally, as if you were actually interviewing a whole bunch of folks together in a panel. You could even try working the interviewees off of each other’s responses — “Mr. X said this; do you agree/disagree and why?” — and you’ll likely end up with something heftier and meatier.

Tell your authorities up front that this is what you’re doing — you really don’t want to mislead anyone into thinking they’re the only interview subject only to find out later that their answers are just one of many. The good news is, with them knowing that they won’t have as many questions to wrestle with and set aside time for, authority participation is more likely.

Even better news: Get a really good bunch of high visibility authorities, and your end product will have a higher perceived value, coveted even. Aka really sellable.
