I mentioned the Pretty Link WordPress plugin in passing in last year’s How to Work In Affiliate Links Into Your eBook post. But that brief mention doesn’t do justice to just how useful this free plugin is to WordPress users.

In short, Pretty Link lets you create easier-to-use redirection links from within WordPress. It also happens to do click counts. Great for affiliate links. In the Wordpreneur Library, for instance, instead of something like this (my live affiliate link to Quick Cash Writing)

I’ve set up and use the following Pretty Link’d link to go to the same exact aff URL:

http://library.wordpreneur.com/qcw

Pretty Link by default automatically generates a randomly named unique link name, but we can specify a name we want to use, which is what I did in this case. Result: An easier-to-remember link name (for me, anyway) that I don’t have to look up when I want to mention Quick Cash Writing and create a link to it.

And that’s where the Pretty Link plugin comes in really handy for managing and using often referenced posts in our WordPress blogs.

Take the new series of EGAD posts I’ve been doing. Heck if people will know what EGAD stands for whenever I mention it in future posts. So the prudent thing to do would be to link back to the original post that explains it. But the URL for the original post is:

http://www.wordpreneur.com/2010/01/egad-ebook-generator-a-day

Unwieldy at best. Worse, it’s difficult to remember off-hand, not to mention type, making linking to the post a, well, PITA.

Pretty Link to the rescue! Create an egad Pretty Link that redirects to the original post, as in:

http://www.wordpreneur.com/egad

and — voila! — an easy to remember URL that makes linking to the post whenever and wherever a piece of cake.
