Hands-Free No Sweat Blog Tweeting With WordPress and the Twitter Tools Plugin

Despite all the hoopla, if you have yet to set up a Twitter account and start using it to at least “broadcast” information to Twitter-using readers/prospects, I don’t really blame you. It wouldn’t be surprising at all if what’s keeping you from doing it is, well, tech overload.

I mean, jeez, first we had to figure out how to put the Web and websites to work, email and ezines, then blogs, etc. etc. etc…. now we have to futz around with all the newfangled social media tools too like Facebook and Twitter on top of everything else we’re already doing.

Well, then, maybe this nifty freebie WordPress plugin may help with the tech overload a bit, at least where Twitter’s concerned.

The plugin is called Twitter Tools. What it does: It automatically “tweets” your WordPress blog posts on Twitter, for one thing. That’s what I use it for here and on Teachpreneur. After I “publish” this post on the Wordpreneur blog, for example, my Twitter account automatically tweets this to all my Twitter followers:

In short, it lets you tweet without leaving your blog. No need to play around with Twitter much if you don’t want to, while being tech-current and “with it,” promoting your Twitter account on your site (like that blue “Follow Me” button I have on the left edge of the screen) for anyone who wants to use the service to keep an eye on you. Simple!

Note that the plugin’s name is Twitter Tools. Plural. It does other things. Like the reverse — automatically creating a post on your blog whenever you tweet something — but I haven’t tried it, nor do I have any interest (yet) in trying it out. But the functionality’s in there for you to explore whenever you’re ready.

Bottom line:  Even if you don’t want to get your hands dirty with Twitter just yet, at the very least, have a Twitter account and set up the plugin just as I described. Then leave it alone, business as usual.

  1. Twitter is effective, but can be addictive. One can end up in an all night tweetathon and lose track of all goals. I like the twitter plugins! Keeps me from playing too much;)
