Cheap Automated E-commerce Solutions for Technically Independent eBook Publishers (part 4)

And now, finally, I reveal the solution I decided to go with.

But first things first… why’d it take so long to get from part 3 to 4? Well, I was being too cute — I wasn’t planning to ever write a fourth part. Sorry about that.

See, it was no big secret that this series of posts was based on my Teachpreneur project and what I eventually decided to use as its “cheap automated e-commerce solution.” Since the Teachpreneur site was already live even before I wrote the very first post of the series, figuring out what solution I eventually decided to go with would have likely taken far less time and effort than a Google search. Clickthrough the link to Teachpreneur, do a dummy purchase transaction and — voila! — the solution I chose would be right in your face. Since Teachpreneur version 1 wasn’t exactly a stealth operation, anyone could have figured out all the answers with just a few mouse clicks — typing wasn’t even required!

I guess a few folks never figured that part out. Got a few comments and emails — not a lot, but enough to be interesting — asking when I’d finally reveal the solution.

Well, in yesterday’s Custom Coming Soon Pages WordPress Plugin post, what I did reveal is that Teachpreneur is currently undergoing what I like to call a “philosophical overhaul.” Here’s a new revelation: Because of the overhaul, there’s no way anyone’s going to figure out now what cheap e-commerce solution I went with.

So, here you go…

I went with ClickBank.

If that info’s a let down, what with ClickBank being around for, like, forever and its operation not exactly much of a secret to many if not most online digital product publishers and affiliate marketers, the choice to go with the ClickBank service seems, well, boring.

In a sense, it is. The service has changed little since the late 90s, when I first started using it. And year after year it just keeps churning away, doing exactly what it says it’s going to do for you: process your digital product online orders and payments, track and compensate any affiliates, take out a few fees, then send you what’s left of the money from the transactions.

Simple. Basic. Solid. Reliable. Good. Boring.

As far as your money goes, that’s really what you want, isn’t it?

Well, I wasn’t planning on saying much more than that so I could get back to work, but wouldn’t you know it, now that writing this post has got me all warmed up on the subject, I’ve got a few more tips and bits of info on the topic to share, mainly in the area of greatly improving ClickBank, above and beyond what you get out of the box. In the next post of the series (probably the final one).
