Top 3 Ways to Quickly Make Money Writing

Written on July 3, 2008 – 10:06 pm | by Wordpreneur |

For what it’s worth, if asked and I had to guess on the three quickest ways to make money writing today (in other words, I’m too lazy to dig up or even make up actual data, and basing this purely on personal experience, observation, anecdotal evidence and good old gut feel), those three would be:

1. Write and sell an ebook. The basic formula is just so straightforward and simple. It’s:

  1. Write and produce the ebook.
  2. Set up a single page sales site and payment/delivery mechanism (i.e., download after Paypal payment).
  3. Promote it via Google AdWords.

2. Web copywriting. Another very simple formula:

  1. Go surfing and look for commercial sites that have crappy writing.
  2. Pitch your service by email. Make it short but good.
  3. Don’t wait for an answer. Move on to the next one.

The trick is to hit as many as you can. I guarantee you will never run out of prospects. Ask enough people, and chances are very good you’ll get a few takers just your first week.

3. Write and promote a blog. Writing is the easy part… lots of bloggers forget the “promote” part of the equation. Although for the biggest bucks, having your blog on your own domain and site is best, it doesn’t really matter a heck of a whole lot whether you have your blog on a free host (like very limited but simple to get started Blogger) to get the bucks rolling in. Just make sure the free host lets you run Google AdSense advertising, which is where your money will come from.

But traffic is critical. Do note, however, I’ve seen really bad writers who just pounded away at the promotion part get a brand new blog up and running and making money within a couple of weeks. Why not you?

Those are my three. Notice anything interesting about all of them? None of them really require any bucks-out-of-pocket to get started! The fact that you’re reading this means that you already have the minimum required to get started now.

Quick and free. Sounds pretty good in my book.
