Top 20 US Websites for June 2008
Just thought you’d find this information interesting, useful, or at the very least, curious.
HitWise is a company that monitors and measures Internet activity anonymously through ISPs. Good way to estimate market share. For its measurements, it takes a sample of users (in this case, 10 million Internet users) and then counts how many of them visit its database of over 1 milliion unique websites (including subdomains). For June 2008, here’s what Hitwise reports:
- www.google.com (5.92% share)
- www.myspace.com (5.05%)
- mail.yahoo.com (5.00%)
- www.yahoo.com (4.09%)
- mail.live.com (2.44%)
- www.ebay.com (1.73%)
- search.yahoo.com (1.62%)
- www.msn.com (1.24%)
- www.facebook.com (1.19%)
- www.youtube.com (0.89%)
- www.gmail.com (0.69%)
- images.google.com (0.55%)
- www.wikipedia.org (0.47%)
- mail.aol.com (0.42%)
- search.msn.com (0.42%)
- address.yahoo.com (0.38%)
- www.pogo.com (0.37%)
- www.craigslist.org (0.36%)
- my.yahoo.com (0.35%)
- www.aol.com (0.34%)
Interesting to speculate what this top ”mix” of popular sites tells us about the US Web population. Hmm. I’m actually a bit surprised that MySpace is ranked so high — I’m not a big fan, but I guess I’m just showing my age.
Like this post? Maybe you'd like to buy me a cuppa joe! It'll help keep me awake to write more, of course. Thanks!
