Let’s Get Some Interactivity Started Contest
Writing and publishing this blog is fun. But you know what would be even more fun? Reading and responding to your comments, questions, feedback! Although my logs show a nice amount of regular traffic coming in, seems that you guys are for the most part a quiet bunch. So…
…let me see if I can give you a little oomph to get things rolling.
(Trying to see if you’re alive and get you involved isn’t just for my ego, btw… it’s a good way to maybe “meet” other wordpreneurs, share your questions, experiences, tips, wisdom — and your site! — with others, and all that other good karmic stuff that comes with just being positively active.)
So, here’s what I’ll do: I have a few books that I think wordpreneurs may be interested in that I no longer need. So, each week I’ll give one away, randomly picking a winner from folks who’ve entered a comment (at the bottom of every post) the previous week. Simple! And, it’ll be a random pick from a data file containing all of the week’s comments; the more comments you make, the better your chances of winning!
Bear with me please as I lay down some very simple ground rules:
- The drawings are open to everyone, but I will only ship (via USPS Media Mail) to a U.S. address… rather anywhere in the US and its territories that USPS Media Mail reaches.

- I confirm/review all posts, and I reserve the right to reject/delete any post at my discretion. Only “live” posts will be included in the drawings. (This is my business-like way of saying spammy and say nothing I’m-just-posting-to-enter-the-contest posts will likely get zapped.)
That’s it! Told you the rules were very simple.
Let’s get started. The first book to be given away is StrikingItRich.com: Profiles of 23 Incredibly Successful Websites You’ve Probably Never Heard Of (Hardcover) by Jaclyn Easton. From the cover jacket: “This is not a how-to book. It’s a ‘how-it-was-done book,’ revealing 23 unique blueprints that have lead to incredible success. Exclusive stories which have never been told — until now.”
Just make a comment or two or more on any post on Wordpreneur from now to Sunday, March 30, 2008, and you’ll be entered to win this book. The winner will be announced the next day, Monday, along with the title of the next book to be given away.
Good luck!
Like this post? Maybe you'd like to buy me a cuppa joe! It'll help keep me awake to write more, of course. Thanks!

Eldon: Love your contest idea, so I’m going to steal it and use over at my own blog.

I just began blogging myself! Good luck with yours. I would like to know how to get people to check out my blog, so I’m looking for tips. I also want to make money writing - possibly on a website.

I’m good to give it a try.
I write short stories, poetry and blues rock songs. Last November I entered a poetry contest. It was the first contest I had entered, and while I didn’t win, I did find it a good motivation to write. Is there anybody out there who has won a prize in any of these writing contests?

Hello Maureen
Welcome to Wordpreneur! You’ve come to the right place.
Tip #1: Post a link to your blog whenever and wherever the opportunity presents itself. Like now, for instance.
Lots of tips on this site. Check them out by browsing through the category menus on the right.
Best of luck with your blog!

Hello JohnnyO, welcome.
Which contest did you enter?
Why not turn your poems into songs? I play the keys, actually, but interestingly enough, none of my music has words in them. Go figure.

I’ve been enjoying your blog for awhile now -
I write for a Business to Business Journal (monthly newspaper) and have a column (for 2 and a half years now) in 2 other newspapers about parenting my college age daughter long distance (very fun to write).
I also just published a cookbook ‘A Bride’s Cookbook or Surviving the First Year’ and have a website of the same name. AND I have an online store called givitup (positive t-shirts and gifts plus “design your own”) and write 2 blogs What I Learned Teaching Sunday School and Starting an Online Store Called givitup.
SO…I am in front of the computer all the time and everything you say helps me somewhere!

Hello Nancy
Glad to know you have the free time to read Wordpreneur.
Little tip: You often can actually embed links in your blog comments. Like this one for your A Bride’s Cookbook. Just code it in HTML as you type the comment. Usually works on WordPress sites like Wordpreneur and other blogging platforms as well.
Be careful when you enter it though since you normally wouldn’t have the ability to edit a post once it’s entered. And be considerate and selective on what links you do include.
Best of luck with your projects!

Thank you!
I wasn’t sure if we were allowed to link, I know some forums don’t let you. But, as always, you are very helpful!

This is a good contest.
I haven’t tried my hand at blogging, but I think I might.
I write poems, short stories, and am working on a novel.

Hi, Sorry I fell off the map for the weekend, 2nd job and so little time.
I actually do write songs. I’ve got a number recorded and posted at at my website. I’ve been toying with all kinds of writing. So many ideas…need to focus…

Great idea! I was directed here by Dream Jobs Dialog. I’ve been writing a blog for a while now. Why don’t you come take a look? Visibility

Sherri, welcome. For writers, blogging is good practice, at the very least. No different from maintaining a traditional paper journal. Hmm, there’s an article begging to be written around that…
JohnnyQ: Yes, focus is critical. Especially I figure for creative types where everything is a distraction. believe me, I know.
Tig: Welcome! Will check out your Visibility blog. thanks!

The contest is a great idea. And so is blogging. It may amaze a lot of people but I don’t have a blog yet even though I read tons of them. But I really do need to start one ’cause in about 4 weeks I am going on a long (4-5 month) trip across US and there are a lot of people interested in where I go and what I plan to see. I am hoping to do some reviews of the places I visit (a small write up with pictures and post for others to enjoy). The problem is I have no idea what the best place to start the blog is at. Any suggestions???

Hi Trisk
Yes, a reegularly updated blog of your travels would be a good place to start.
I’d say start with a blog that’s free and easy. You can always move it over to someplace more powerful and robust later on. Blogger is a good choice.
If you want something more powerful from the get go (but still free), go to Wordpress.com.
Regardless of where you set your blog up, let us know where it is so we can keep a close eye on your epic journey!

No fair — I commented earlier! I didn’t get any prizes
OK, just kidding. I think this is a great idea. A brave one, too — I hate running giveaways, though I do it often enough at Lifehack.org. All that bookkeeping. Bleah!
Some of the comments on this post are spot on (about blogging and writing) — blogging is a great way to become a better writer, in a society that a) rewards better writers and b) doesn’t produce many of them. Even if you don’t blog about topics related to your career, the experience alone makes you more valuable. If you have a blog, keep it up; if you don’t, start one.
