“Executive Summary” Business Book Reviews
IDEA: Publish short but meaty “executive summary” book reviews of business titles.
The premise, of course, is that busy business folk have very limited time and you’ll quite literally be doing them a favor giving them a quick but good snapshot of what a specific business book delivers.
Yeah, it’s being done. Two that come to mind are:
So, why would business book readers go to your site instead? Besides the possibility that, hey, maybe you’d be really good at this, both sites above are pay to play. And you? I suggest totally free.
With your site being open to all comers, I can’t imagine why it couldn’t be easily pumped out and managed using nothing more than a blog software platform, like WordPress.
Monetize it with Google AdSense advertising revenue, for one.
More obvious: Monetize through book sales on Amazon and Barnes & Noble and/or one of the hundreds of booksellers out there.
Remember: You aren’t just potentially selling the title you’re reviewing… the reader may be interested in similar or related titles, or in other books by the same author.
A serious problem is that unless you’re a super speed reading demon, it’d take a very long time for you to populate your site with enough content to interest anyone (or even the search engines). Some thoughts on dealing with this:
• The business book genre is huge. You could conceivably specialize and focus on a particular special interest niche (e.g., success & motivation, online business, home business, etc.) which would not only help you keep up with the bigger boys, you may even overtake them with content just specific to your specialty.
• Build a team of reviewers. Which means you’ll have to compensate them somehow. Lots of ways to do this: free books, share of AdSense impressions, share of affiliate program revenue, etc. etc. etc. But my all time favorite: Pay them cold hard cash for all rights. If you combine it with a copy of the book, you probably won’t have to pay too much. Recoup the investment by generating (and keeping) all AdSense and affiliate revenue… not to mention by being able to do what you will with the content (like compile it into a larger book along with other reviews for resale later).
