A Free WordPress Theme and List Builder for Your Parked Domains
If you’re anything like me, you probably have a number of different “online projects” going on simulaneously in various stages of development. All likely already have domain names, but since there really are only so many projects you can work on at any given point in time, I bet a number (most?) of those domains essentially are in “limbo.” Meaning, they realistically go nowhere until your project gets underway.
Since you’re a smart cookie, you’ve probably got your limbo’d domains redirecting to one of your existing sites, or worse, just parked on your registration service’s servers.
What a waste. Especiually when you consider that with the push button-like domain and WordPress installation tools provided by many of today’s Web hosting services (such as Site5) there’s now a better option for “not quite there yet but soon” sites:
- Set up a site on your server for your domain.
- Install WordPress.
- Install the free LaunchPad theme.
The LaunchPad theme is one of those simple ideas you’ll wish you thought of yourself. What it does is let you set up a really cool landing page, one that lets you:
- provide information on your site-to-be to early visitors. You can even update the information on this page as your site progresses.

- build valuable mailing lists (email and RSS) of folks who wish to be notified when your site is finally up and running! This is done through another popular service, FeedBurner, which LaunchPad ties into seamlessly.
Neat! In fact, with hardly any customization, you could use LaunchPad for just about any mailing list building application — you’ll just need to use domains… and/or subdomains, such as
- http://subdomain.wordpreneur.com
If you’re a WordPress user, setting up this kind of application will now be a real piece of cake.

Will your upcoming NEED TO KNOW publication series tell me exactly step-by-step how to get my domain name pointing to a Site5 service? And, then, how to install WordPress there?
Good post, sir, and hope to see more like this. Right up my alley.
