How to Make Money Writing!

A Flood of Publishing Ideas and Ventures?

Ideas, Online Publishing — Wordpreneur @ 9:52 pm

IdeasMaybe it’s just me, but if I see another website or blog on Internet Marketing, I’m going to hurl. OK, so it isn’t quite that dramatic an offense (who am I to speak, right?), but people, please, can we at least pretend to be trying for original and unique, not to mention truly useful and informative?

Tall order those. At least the unique and original bits are it seems (the latter two should be givens). Point is, it’s darned difficult to come across an idea that someone, somewhere hasn’t already thought of in whole or in part in one form or another…

…but obviously not impossible.

This reminds me of that famous misquote (since the guy never really did say it, although the idea of it being said — and by him even more so — is so appealing, I guess that’s why it lives on to this day):

“Everything that can be invented has been invented.” — Charles H. Duell, Commissioner, U.S. Patent Office, 1899

Misquote, yeah, but as far as online publishing projects (websites, blogs, etc.) go, you sometimes really can’t help but feel like good old misquoted Charles H. Duell.

Right. Besides the fact that no, it hasn’t all been thought up yet and never will, if you’re feeling Duell-ishly discouraged while trying to come up with a new site or blog or even writing project idea, here’s a quote (and a real one this time from a guy you had better recognize) that tells you exactly what you need to do:

“There’s a way to do it better – find it.” — Thomas Alva Edison

Towards that end, I’ve decided to devote a bunch of time and energy (and posts) on throwing media and publishing ideas out at you. Most will likely be online projects and ventures, but who knows what’ll pop up in my coconut as I start getting into this…

Original ideas? Unless I know for sure it’s an original, assume someone else already came up with it somewhere — or maybe is even already working it. Don’t know. Don’t care. You’re going to do it better anyway.

Hang in there. The flood’ll start real soon…

  1. A great analysis!
    Here’s a Mark Twain quote:
“Everyone with a new idea is regarded as some kind of a nut…. until he ’s successful.”

    My quote:
Folks, from my long experience, the hardest part is making it happen! The second hardest part is keeping someone from stealing it from you.

  2. Thanks for the feedback and quotes, Jim. Of course, I did essentially just tell folks in the post to steal others’ ideas and make them better. :-)
