Wordpreneur Carnival #009

Written on December 9, 2007 – 8:41 pm | by Wordpreneur |

Things are getting more interestingly hectic as C-day fast approaches. This has literally been the first chance I’ve had in days to sit down and write anything… and it’s not even all that much writing at that!

In fact, it won’t be… just a short Carnival edition this time around, but with two wordpreneur must-reads and one must-bookmark. Can’t ask for much more, really, can we?

In the “terribly important question that needs to be answered perfectly” department, first time book authors want to know the procedure or etiquette or whatever of sending out simultaneous queries to muliple agents. Be Your Own Editor’s Lisa handles the perfect answer part of the equation in her Playing the Agent Field post. I don’t know her last name (coy), but she does reveal that she’s now “a production editor at one of the most prestigious literary publishing houses in New York.” Not that you needed that bit of info to realize the lady knows what she’s talking about.

This next item isn’t actually a post but a faq… a government one at that (Library of Congress). But if you’re blogging, trust me, this is interesting. The LOC’s Frequently Asked Questions About the ISSN page details how we can get one of those cool International Standard Serial Numbers. For what? Well, guess what our blogs are? Yup, they’re serials. Extra points if your last name’s Kellogg.

Steve Pavlina’s one of those guys you’ve already seen here, but I just can’t help but bring another one of his posts to your attention. He often covers issues near and dear to our professional hearts — in this case, doing free work — and while he’s at it, gives advice that makes sense. His point in his Working for Free post that I obviously agree with: “One of the best ways to show people the value of your work is to share it with them for free.” And no, I’m not being hypocritical after having made this post. After all: Am I charging you anything for this blog? Free comes in many forms, grasshopper.

That’s it for now, folks. Now it’s off to Amazon, while I can still get FREE Super Saver shipping for gift items that need to be delivered by the 24th. Me, go to the mall? Are you nuts?

See ya!
