My Query Success Rate

Written on December 4, 2007 – 5:43 pm | by Wordpreneur |

Since I’m bold enough to actually be giving tips and pointers to other freelance writers, I must have a pretty good success rate with my queries, right?

Are you kidding me?

Not that I’ve been doing much querying of late, but I go through “query cycles,” and I feel one coming on again, which means I’ll be able to confirm this experience once more:

Every single query cycle, I’d be lucky to get a 1:10 positive outcome. I’m sure the ratio’s worse, but heck, I got better things to do than count… the point is, my success rate with blind queries is low.

But so what? “It’s a numbers game,” my pop always said. “Everything is.” And if anyone knew that, it was him. He was a very successful businessman, with an impressively large list of failures. The hits took care of the misses and then some.

The freelance writing game’s no different. Just keep querying. Doesn’t look like there’s going to be any shortage of folks to ask anytime soon.

Like this post? Maybe you'd like to buy me a cuppa joe! It'll help keep me awake to write more, of course. Thanks!

As “they” say in the sales game, every “no” just gets me that much closer to a “yes.”

    Keep pluggin’
