Wordpreneur Carnival #007
Welcome to another edition of the Wordpreneur Carnival. It’s coming out a little bit later today than usual — sorry about that; needed the space in my fridge, so was just trying to polish off the leftover turkey this morning. Barely made a dent. But what little I managed to put away before grudgingly getting back to work… mmmmm.
Like with eating turkey leftovers, who said going into business was an all or nothing proposition? In How to Start a Business Without Quitting Your Day Job, American Entrepreneur makes a good point that “the best way to start a business is to start out small while you continue to work your normal job.”
How about working from home? There is one line in Marco Richter’s Work From Home Concepts post, Who Can Work at Home?, that I like in particular: “Working from home is… no longer strictly synonymous with small home business.” Yup, the home as a workplace is great, perfect even for the just getting started writer/publisher, I think. Although frankly, after having done this home working thing for a decade and a half, I’d like nothing more than to have my own office suite somewhere separate from where I live. But maybe that’s just me.
However, whether you work at home or in an office suite, online there’s one place where you must be: Google. If none of your pages have been indexed by the #1 search engine, get your derriere on over pronto to Danogo’s The 2 Simple Ways to Get Your Website Into Google Search Results.
Google done? Great! Now on to that other source of big traffic, social media and networking sites. But where can we learn more about them? Wouldn’t it be great if we had a list of the Top 100 Social Media and Social Networking Blogs to work with? Well, thanks to Laura Milligan (Virtual Hosting Blog), we do!
Whew. That list’s overwhelming! Maybe we should just put it aside for later. Uh uh. Not a good idea. And Edith over at Social Media Marketing Report gives you the answer to the question, Why Should You Care? (About Social Media Marketing of course!)
OK, let’s get back to the work of writing and editing, shall we? 10 Cheap Ways to Get Clients for Freelance Consultants at Proc.new would be good stopover, especially if you have no idea what you’re doing business-wise. Wait a minute, that title’s a bit off, isn’t it? By gosh, you’re right! It’s for freelance consultants and programmers. But wait a minute… if you change every instance of “consultant” and “programmer” with “writer/editor,” it works!
Funny how a lot of business principles are universal, huh? And they still will be at next week’s Carnival… see you then!
