Plugin: Subscribe to Comments
Stupid me — what with all the powerful features WordPress provides that I don’t even know of let alone use, I thought this functionality was already built-in. Apparently not.
Why not, WordPress? That it’s missing from WordPress’s basic set of features is surprising considering how critically important it is, I feel, for us to have interactive sites. This does nothing if not help tremendously in that respect.
No biggie… the plugin’s free and really easy to install. [NOTE: Non-WordPress blogger? Best use or find something that does offer this feature... although it wouldn't be shocking if you discover that your current blogging platform already has it. It's that obvious and important!]
What it does: When you comment on a post, you can choose to get notified automatically by email of any followup comments by others.
That’s it. But it goes a long way towards practically converting an adequate blog commenting/feedback feature into a more forum-like “discussion” enabler — and this is also important — without hassling anyone who doesn’t want to be bothered by it.
Smart.
Check it out yourself. Just scroll down to the bottom of this page to the “Post a Comment” area. At the very bottom, you’ll see a “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail” checkbox. Sorry if you were expecting something more high-tech.
And don’t worry… email addresses aren’t being collected for a separate mailing list. I (the publisher) am not even notified if anyone subs… I’m oblivious to its activity and interaction with you. In the notification emails you receive, it even gives you links that will let you cancel subscriptions, change your email address or even block all subscriptions to it. Now that’s high tech.
If you have a WordPress blog, go get it. A must-have!

I love this plugin. It enables me to leave a comment on a blog and then be notified of all the havoc I’ve wrea- Uh, I mean, what everyone else has to say
Subscribe to comments is definitely a must for all Wordpress blogs.

Like you, E-Man, I’d just assumed this was already in there among all of the WordPress goodies, so glad you’ve called our attention to it.
A must-have, in my opinion.
