News to Use 11.18.2007

Written on November 19, 2007 – 6:04 pm | by Wordpreneur |

I try to monitor various news feeds, and have made it a habit of collecting and noting news of interest to me. Then it hit me: Why not “share” news items I think other wordpreneurs may find useful?

Here you go. I plan on just posting these periodically; basically, I throw them into a document file, and when they’re long enough (batches of about 5 news items) — click! — I post. Very scientific. At least that’s how it works for now.

I’m working through my existing archive to see if anything in there’s still current and newsworthy. So I’ll probably be “flooding” the next few posts with news, LIFO. Then it’s back to our “normal programming.”

Blue Collar Comics get a Home on Web [LA Times]
While the major Hollywood studios claim that the profit outlook for Internet offerings is too sketchy to give writers a percentage, an increasing number of big-media veterans are investing in the Web.

Comics Publishers Cautiously Go Online [AP]
Marvel is putting some of its older comics online… hoping to reintroduce young people to the X-Men and Fantastic Four by showcasing the original issues in which such characters appeared.

Headache for Publishers as Men Ditch Mags for Web [Reuters]
Leading European publishers are coming to terms with what teenage boys and men have known for years — the Web beats magazines in grabbing their eyeballs.

MinnPost Strives to Fill the News Void [PRWeek]
MinnPost is an online, nonprofit journalism venture that they hope will be an effective stopgap against the erosion of quality news coverage in their region. It is run by a lean and mean staff (supplemented by dozens of freelancers), made up mostly of journalists who have been laid off recently from local papers.

Web Spinning: Growing Online Ad Biz Eyes Niche Audience [NY Post]
The lucrative business of selling Web ads has become so fragmented — and easy to do — that even Martha Stewart has thrown her hat in the ring by setting up an online advertising network.

Like this post? Maybe you'd like to buy me a cuppa joe! It'll help keep me awake to write more, of course. Thanks!

Like the concept, E-Man. One idea that would be helpful to me, and perhaps others. Why not put one item per post and then categorize them separately? That way, a few weeks from now, a reader could go in and review all of the news items on a particular topic.

I could. But these “news to use” posts aren’t going to happen that often (probably 2-3x a month at best, I figure), and there are a bunch of reasons why not, so likely won’t be happening.
