Freeware Text Editors

Written on November 27, 2007 – 7:01 pm | by Wordpreneur |

For a lot of writing and notetaking and other utilitarian tasks (such as keeping simple databases/lists and “Internet age” duties like editing HTML and other source code), I prefer using a good old text editor. LIke Windows NotePad.

But that old Windows standby, although adequate for many tasks, is actually quite blah when compared to the state of the art in plain text editing technology.

It does seem kind of silly, however, to want to shell out bucks for some luxuries when NotePad is free and will pretty much do the job anyway. More or less.

What if I told you that a lot of the latest and greatest is totally free? Yup, I thought you’d be interested. There are, in fact, tons of free text editors out there; here’s a list of the best freebies I’ve found to date and can recommend you try out to see which one you’re most comfortable with.

This list is for Windows users. If any of you Mac folks want to share a similar list of Mac-specific text editors, our Mac-using wordpreneurs would surely appreciate it (comment below, send it to me, or do it on your blog and drop me a note).

Like this post? Maybe you'd like to buy me a cuppa joe! It'll help keep me awake to write more, of course. Thanks!
