Freelance Tip: Join Multiple Job Boards

Written on November 26, 2007 – 5:58 pm | by Wordpreneur |

There are a number of writers’ job boards out there… some free, some pay. I say, if you’re really serious about your freelance career, use them all.

Sure, you’ll see some duplication in the listings (in the free boards, usually), but so what? There are lots of listings that aren’t.

Here are the three (3) job boards I tap most frequently. I drop by many others fairly regularly (and really, there are lots of good ones out there), but these three form my core and are good places to start:

  • Craigslist (free) — don’t just check your local craigslist… with the Net, many (most?) freelance employers couldn’t care less where you’re located, so check all the other craigslilst boards as well. And there are lots.
  • eLance (pay) — this is turning out to be a big favorite of mine for quality freelance writing and editing job posts. Everybody pays to play (except for job posters) which has pretty much eliminated many of the dinky offshore operations, the kids with no overhead, and the nonserious (and needless to say, quite unprofessional) competition that used to muck up these boards (and still do, elsewhere).
  • GoFreelance (pay) — I don’t know how they do it, but I always see interesting job posts here that none of the others seem to pick up on.

Good luck!

Like this post? Maybe you'd like to buy me a cuppa joe! It'll help keep me awake to write more, of course. Thanks!
