Wordpreneur Carnival #003
Busy day (leak in the @#$@#^& basement). So let’s get right to work…
You’re trying to make money with a blog that sucks? More power (and luck) to you. But if you’ve come to the conclusion that not sucking is more likely the path of least resistance towards blog monetization nirvana, Inkthinker Kristen King’s It’s Not You, It’s Me(me): 9 Tips for Making Your Blog Suck is an excellent place to start.
This is a must-read, I think: 6 Tips to Copywriting Success by Heather Juma (Girls Who Network Diary). Whether trying to write copy for your own needs or for clients, it’s always a good idea to be reminded (heck, for some of us, to know) these basics.
Not exactly a “write for money” thing, Are You Losing Money by Doing Your Own Work? by Street Smarts Marketing’s Kathleen Gage does make for interesting reading and thinking… specifically on considering hiring a Virtual Assistant to handle all our non revenue-producing tasks (aka routine administrative work or, as I usually call it, “the boring crap”).
Everybody and their kitty’s stalker is blogging nowadays, so every conceivable topic must be covered already, right? Of course not… besides, who’s to say that even if something is indeed already covered that it’s covered sufficiently well? Anyway, if you’re looking for ideas for a blog (or your next article or book, for that matter), How to Save the World’s Dave Pollard and his old but still quite apropos list of What the Blogosphere Needs More Of (Updated) may be a good thinner for your clogged up creative juices.
In the “Boy, does this news get me tapping away on my keyboard again” category: Yes, some blogs are profitable - very profitable in the San Francisco Chronicle.
And finally, if the idea of writing yet another business or technical article makes you gag, Dosh Dosh Maki’s post on Four Reasons Why the Entertainment Niche is Great for Making Money should be your next stop.
See all you carnival revelers next Saturday!
